Fighting Mosquitoes in Tokyo's Rainy Season
I have wrote articles on visiting gardens in Tokyo and a forest park just outside
Tokyo in previous articles, but I am a bit worried about one thing for people
visiting those places. This is what I am worried: Mosquitoes.
In Spring, the gardens and in the forest parks around Tokyo are really nice places
to visit. However, in the the rainy season it can become quite hot and humid,
perfect breeding conditions for those pests called Mosquitoes.
From the beginning of the first month of the long rainy season in June, Mosquitoes really begin to annoy us. You rarely find any mosquitoes in the urban areas in central Tokyo, but watch out when you go to the woody and bush areas.
Fortunately, there is various Mosquito repelling products sold at local drug stores and to help you keep mosquitoes to stay away. The product is called Ka-tori-ki.

This is in-house electric device for Mosquito repelling. It works for 30 days,
60 days or 120 days once you set up the liquid-repellent settings. The one I
use is for 60 days and I keep this on at night since mosquitoes come into house
from my window garden.
Mobile type of mosquito-repelling devices are also sold at drug stores. They
are so convenient when you go to brushy places in Tokyo. It is called Keitai-Yo
Katori-ki. FYI, there is a Mobile phone called Keitai Denwa.
Yes, a mobile telephone
(where ketai means mobile and Denwa means telephone). Recently, Japanese people
just call their mobiles phones Keitai, in short.
Furthermore, there are mosquito-repellents that you spray on your body. It is called Mushi-yoke-spray. If your skin is not too sensitive, it will be easier to protect yourself using Ka-tori-ki or Keitai-Yo Katori-ki.
