A way of making learning Japanese language fun
My first language is Japanese. As my second language, I have been learning English for years, but I am still at an intermediate level. Especially, speaking in English, which is still very difficult for me. I know the reason for the this lack of progress and it is because I rarely get opportunities of hearing English conversation in daily life here in Japan.
In fact, I am not the only one who is having this problem. One of my Japanese business friends told me to find a solution to a lack of opportunies of speaking English in Japan, he was using a DVD version of the American TV drama Friends to learn English. I think that is a good choice as a teaching aid. It is also important to enjoy learning and have fun, which will also give you encouragement and inspiration.
Maybe I can say the same thing for learning Japanese. If you are learning Japanese, watching Japanese drama or cartoons on TV or from a DVD is a good idea. However, I suggest you be careful when you select Japanese cartoons as learning material. Some characters in Japanese animations speak in formal ways that is totally different from ordinary, day-to-day speaking in Modern day Japan.
For example, I've have heard a cartoon character speaking like a Samurai would hundreds of years ago. No Japanese speak like that any more....hmmm I think Sazae-san or that kind of cartoon should be ok. Sazae-san is the most popular cartoon in Japan. It's been said that Sazae-san reflects even the Japanese economy.
Anyway, it is better try enjoying learning one way or another. That must be a quicker way to catch it in.
