TOPIC: Sestuyaku | Save Money in Japan!

Grocery stores in Tokyo, Japan
If you stay in Tokyo for a few months or longer, you might miss foods that you usually eaten in your own country. Don't worry, you can buy imported foods at local super markets in Tokyo. About ten years ago, there were not so many supermarkets handling imported foods and you used to able to buy them only at big supermarkets in central Tokyo like Kinokuniya. But now most of the local suppermarkets in most parts of Tokyo handle various imported foods. However, one problem is left. They are rather expensive. Tears!!
I like imported foods myself and to safe some money I usually go to Hanamasa. Hanamasa is a grocery store handling mainly meats and also sells food products not for personal use but for restaurant use. So, the portion of each product is big compared to ordinary products that you buy at regular supermarkets in Japan. BUT the prices are low!!
Hanamasa handles many imported products from many countries, like Italy, Spain, French, China, Turkey USA and others.
For example, I usually buy Italian pasta and olive oil, Chinese seasonings and a few other items. I can buy 2 packages of 500 g spaghetti for only 194 Yen. (97 Yen each). Under $2 US. Remember only one package of 500 g spagehetti usually costs 200 Yen or more, elsewhere. Hanamasa is also helpful when you have a BBQ - large servings of meat. :-)
There are many Hanamasa Stores in Tokyo and in the suburbs of Tokyo. Open 24 hours a day. Very convenient!
