The Gandun Museum in Matsudo, Chiba
In Japan, there are numerous interesting sightseeing attraction, not only historic, old places, but also are new sites and places showcasing the post-modern nature of Japanese culture.
For example, the animation industry in Japan is world known and a big part of modern Japanese culture. There are even dedicated museums related to animation in various parts of Japan.
Japan is not only a country of Samurai and Geisha. Visiting these post-modern-Japanese-pop-culture related places is a recommended way of enjoying travel in Japan, contrasting the older, traditional culture and newer recent modern cultures of Japan.
Now, here's an interesting museum related to Japanese animation, it is the
Gundam Museum in Matsudo, Chiba (Tokyo). This museum is a part of the Bandai Museum,
the very large toy company Bandai operates.
The Bandai Museum is in a large building in front of the Matsudo Station train, and the museum is on the 5th to 8th floors of the buidling. Matsudo is only a 20 or 25 min ride from the Ueno station in Tokyo by train. So, if you are an Anime fan, it will be a good idea to travel a little further toward the Matsudo.
In the museum, it displays many interesting exhibits and displays related to popular characters that Bandai manages, for example, Ultraman and Kamen Rider. There are life-size figures of these charactes that will greet you here. You might get excited like a kid again. : )
The Gundam Museum on the 7th floor; the whole floor is only for Gundam! There are so many Gundum related goods displayed there. You will be overwhelmed by the huge figure of Gandum. This pages shows the photo of the huge Gundam.
The museum has shops where you can buy Gundam goods, or other popular character's goods. It also has a Gundam Cafe on the 8th floor (8F) where you can enjoy lunch or dinner.... Gundam Cafe

Admission fees
Admission fee for Bandai Museum is basically free, but the museum will charge ypou fees depending on the attractions you enter, for example, 300 Yen for entering the Character World section.

How to get there
By JR line
From JR Ueno Station, take JR Joban line to go Matsudo Station.
It takes 21 min. (You can take JR Joban line from JR Nippori station too.)
By Subway Line
Take Chiyoda subway line that is connected to Joban line.
*Not every train of Chiyoda line goes to Matsudo. Make sure the train you take will go to Matsudo when you get on.
From Matsudo station to Bandai Museum
Go out of East exit of Matsudo Station. The large building with the sign "Bandai Museum" on the right is Bandai Museum.
